"The T5G971 is my first heart rate monitor, even though I have been competitively running for 3 years. My running buddies have Polar models, the FT60and the FT40, which they swear by. Unfortunately, I hate messing around with gadgets, and I couldn't figure out how to use those things.

I saw the Timex T5G971 on Amazon, and I read that the T5G971 heart monitor was easy to use. It also cost less than the Polar ones, plus I got it shipped for free. So I figured I would give it a shot.

I would have to say that I should have gotten one of these a long time ago. It really gives me an accurate idea how my training is progressing. I do alot of my running after work, so the fact that it lights up and is easy to see when I am running in the dark is good.

And yes, they were right, the Timex T5G971 is definitely easy to use, not hard to figure out at all. Most of the functions are accessible by one button. The reason I am writing this T5G971 review is that I figure their must be other runners that have held off getting a heart monitor.

That is a BIG mistake! Start using one religiously and you will be thrilled with your progress!

"Last spring I suffered a mild heart attack, and just recently my doctor cleared me to begin an exercise program. He also showed me his Timex T5G971 heart rate monitor. He said that I should keep my heart rate at a certain level when I do my walking, and the T5G971 would help me keep track of it.

So far, I have been very pleased with it. It let's me know how many calories I am burning, and what my average heart rate is. I always wear the chest strap, and it fits just fine.
